Celebrating 100 Years of Waldorf® Education
Tamarack Waldorf School (TWS) will mark Waldorf education’s 100th anniversary on September 19, 2019 with a celebration at Pulaski Park near Brady St. from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. The event will bring together members of the Waldorf community, as well as elected officials, alumni and friends of Tamarack to commemorate the anniversary with a small ceremony, followed by family friendly activities including seed planting, and face painting.
Waldorf Education founder, Rudolf Steiner, formed the first Waldorf school In Stuttgart, Germany in 1919. Today there are over 1,100 Waldorf schools and almost 2,000 Waldorf kindergartens in 80 countries around the globe.
In celebration of Waldorf education’s centennial, Tamarack Waldorf joins other schools worldwide engaging in social and environmental impact projects. The higher aim is to regionally and internationally create a vital interconnectedness essential in today’s world.
Tamarack’s projects include:
GreenBee Wildlife Web: Tamarack has partnered with Gernumbli Gardens located on Milwaukee’s South Side to host the school’s mascot beehive. Students and staff also continue to maintain a thriving pollinator garden near the school and will be providing seeds and information to the community to encourage families and friends to start their own pollinator gardens at home.
Hand in Hand: The school has partnered with Pathfinders, an organization committed to bringing safety, hope and healing to youth in crisis in Milwaukee, to donate handmade backpacks thoughtfully designed and sewn by Tamarack students filled with both useful items, and items that provide comfort and encouragement.
All the campaigns aim to stimulate dialogue around human values in education and support initiatives that revitalize society, our relationships with each other and our Earth. An introduction video to Waldorf education and its centennial celebration can be found here: Seeding the Future
