Danceworks Classes at Tamarack

This past fall, Tamarack students in Grades 5 to 8 were fortunate to participate in a series of dance workshops thanks to a generous grant from Danceworks Milwaukee and the United Performing Arts Fund (UPAF). Students participated in two classes each week for five weeks, learning hip-hop and Latin dance.

Ms. Catey worked on various forms of Latin dance, including Samba, Salsa, and bachata basics. Students also had the opportunity to work with Ms. Gabi, learning the basics of hip-hop dance, such as tutting, waving, and the fundamentals of break dancing.

“The hip-hop classes were high-energy, and teachers used the latest music mixed with movements influenced by some of today's top video choreographers. Both the Latin and hip-hop classes provided structured methods of learning various movement styles in a fun environment. The classes encouraged individual expression and personal style,” reflected Ms. Dawn, Tamarack’s Physical Education teacher.

We are so grateful to the United Performing Arts Fund for making this programming possible for our students.

It was cool! The music was great and the teacher was engaging and fun.
