Welcome to Grade Six

Welcome to the new school year!  We are “middle school” now!

Communication

I am very excited that these family pages are up and running.  They have always existed on our website, but teachers could not access the pages without going through a third party.  Now that we can use them easily, please check them for information and communication from me.

You can contact me by email for school business at michele.peterson@tamarackwaldorf.org or by leaving a phone message in the office. I have not been a great email person, but I have been working to develop the habit of checking email on Monday mornings before school time and Monday through Thursday evenings between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m.

Please ignore the Wednesday office hours on the front page.  That was from last year and right now I have no specialty at that time.  My office hours for the first semester will be Thursdays from 10:15 to 11:00.

You also will have information coming home regularly (at least four days per week for now) through your child’s assignment notebook. This the black three ring binder.  Please look at it regularly.

Schedule and Specialties

Our class has a good schedule this year.  We have no interrupted morning lesson times, and our lunch and recess times match all the other classes this year.  This will be a big improvement!

The children have Spanish,  Instrumental Music, Drama, Circus, and Ballroom Dance (second semester), and Handwork/Applied Arts.

Senora Geiger has been given a special class time to help children who are new to Spanish (this year or last year) or who need extra help.  She will let us know who she will work with.

Mrs. Kacanek will be sending information about the Instrumental Music program.

A new specialty this year is Drama with Mr. Boland.  He will work with Grades Six through Eight, and our class works with him first. This class is Friday afternoons.

Miss Beret, our beloved Pentathlon teacher, will continue to work with the children in Circus class on Mondays.

All older grades (six through eight) have Handwork/Applied Arts in the morning, with morning lesson later. Our class is on Friday.  Sadly, Mr. Pabon is unable to teach a full woodwork course to Grades Five through Eight.  Mr. DeBoer will be assisting Mr. Pabon with Woodwork for Grades Seven and Eight.  Mr. DeBoer will carry the program for Grades Five and Six and is developing a program with Mrs. Duncan (Handwork is not affected).  He plans to work with clay for Grade Six.

Miss Danielle will be assisting with lunch and recess on Wednesdays.  She has been working at our school for a while, but never directly with our class, so she spent all of Tuesday with us.

On Fridays, Mr. DeBoer will teach morning lesson and have lunch and recess with our class.

I will be dismissing on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays unless I am absent.  Senora Geiger will dismiss on Wednesdays and Fridays, unless she is absent.
