March Letter 2014

Dear Rainbow Garden Families,

Happy March!  I hope you enjoyed a restful winter break and the extra snow days!  Winter seems long, but spring is on it’s way and before we know it the cold weather and snow will be a thing of the past.  It is likely to be increasingly wet outside, so please continue to check your child’s extra clothes supply and make sure their outside clothes aren’t too wet.

Please keep in mind that Tamarack strongly suggests that your child watches little or no television.  We suggest this especially in the early childhood program in order to support the imaginative life of your child.  Often, children who watch television, play video games and watch movies have a difficult time playing anything else.  When children are able to use their imaginations free of media, the possibilities are endless during their play.  Many Waldorf schools require parents to sign  a no media contract.  If you have any questions, please feel free to talk to me regarding this topic and alternatives for your child.

All teachers at Tamarack Waldorf School are evaluated by an outside observer every two years.  Laura Cassidy will be coming to the Rainbow Garden on Wednesday, March 5th to observe me.  Laura was an early childhood teacher at Prairie Hill for many years, and is on the faculty of the Great Lakes Waldorf Institute.  If you see her, please give her a warm welcome.

Parent/Teacher conferences will be held on the 6th and 7th.  Please sign up for a half hour time slot outside the Rainbow Garden. Parent/Teacher conferences are a wonderful time to touch base about your child’s life in school.  Please come with any questions and concerns you may have.  In order to make best use of our conference time together, I am inviting you to think about the attached questions, jotting down any immediate thoughts that come to mind.  It enhances my teaching to have current information on your child.  The questions on nutrition, rhythm and warmth are prompted by our understanding that these elements are the building blocks not only  of your child’s physical body, but of your child’s future academic abilities as well.

We are so excited to have Tamarack’s very own handwork teacher, Marcia Duncan present an early childhood parent evening on Friday, March 28th from 7:00pm-8:00pm.    Childcare is available for $3.00.  Please sign up on the bulletin board outside the classroom.

Are you especially organized, good with finances, a pro at organizing groups of people?  Are you interested in the festivals we celebrate at our school, or do you have any extra time to do some simple cleaning?  There are a number of committees and parent groups that need you!!!  If you have any extra time to volunteer at school, please let us know.  Let’s come together as a community to strengthen our school!

Warmly,

Mrs. Faith

March roars in like a lion

So fierce,

The wind so cold,

It seems to pierce.

The month rolls on

And Spring draws near,

And March goes out

Like a lamb so dear.
